Mutiny For The Masses
October 10, 2026
Little Caesars Arena
Detroit, Michigan
Detroit understands labor; the assembly line sets the pace. So when Sturgill Simpson rolls through three hours of hard graft with no set break, it feels familiar here. In return, fans reaped SOUND & FURY start to finish, the extended cut of MUTINY AFTER MIDNIGHT, and two tour debuts: "Remember to Breathe" and a breakout Jimi Hendrix cover, "Machine Gun."
Deep into the show's make-art-not-friends metamodernism, Simpson leans into the mic: "That reminds me…" as if settling into a story. Then, without warning, he yells, "1, 2, 3 ...!" and the band crashes straight into "Life of Sin" from his second studio album, METAMODERN SOUNDS IN COUNTRY MUSIC.
Simpson and the band have a lot to say, and they leave the Motor City to reach their own conclusions, though the message was clear: these guys are out to make America fuk again. Impeccable vibes aside, Saturday night was fire and brimstone, an entertaining smokeshow not from Genesis or Exodus but straight out of Revelation, the old world torn down so a new one can rise. Call it a shot across the bow to kick-start the revolution, courtesy of The Dark Clouds: Laur Joamets (lead guitar), Kevin Black (bass), Miles Miller (drums), and Robbie Crowell (keyboards, sax).
Mutiny for the Masses arrives hot and ready, a sly pizza joke in a pizza-branded arena, in a town that knows the difference between scrap stamped off the line and art built by hand.
